How does the Motion Sensor detect motion?

The Motion Sensor is infrared based, meaning it detects movement by looking for a source of heat moving perpendicularly across its field of view. The Motion Sensor can see up to 40 ft away from where it is located. The field of view is 45 degrees to the left and 45 degrees to the right for a total of 90 degrees.
