What May Be Required
The False Alarm Reduction Program of the City of Baltimore requires an alarm permit for residential and commercial security alarms monitored to provide police response. There is no fee to register your alarm. The authorities may not dispatch if no permit is on file.

The Baltimore City Police Department is required by law to collect fees for false alarms. You are provided with 1 free false alarm response per year.
For residential and commercial alarm users, the second and third false alarms will cost $50 each, the fourth is $100, the fifth is $150 and the sixth is $200. Fines for residences continue to escalate with each occurrence up to $1,000. For commercial alarm users the fines can escalate up to $2,000 per occurrence.

What May Be Required
The City of Los Angeles requires an alarm permit for residential and commercial security alarms monitored to provide police response. The initial fee for a residential or commercial permit is $43. The fee for annual renewals is $31. Alarm Permits expire after December 31st of each year and must be renewed annually. Operating an alarm system without a valid permit is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $1,000 or a year in county jail or both. Violators that are ordered to appear in court may be required to pay additional fines and penalty assessments as a result of the criminal case being filed in the County of Los Angeles Superior Court.

False Alarm Information
The City of Los Angeles is required by law to collect fees for false alarms based on the number of false alarms per calendar year. For permit holders, the first false alarm is $216, the second is $266, the third is $316, and the fourth is $366. Non-permit holders are fined $316 for the first false alarm, $416 for the second, $516 for the third and $616 for the fourth. Fees may be adjusted yearly.
Operating an alarm system without a valid permit is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $1,000 or a year in county jail or both. Violators that are ordered to appear in court may be required to pay additional fines and penalty assessments as a result of the criminal case being filed in the County of Los Angeles Superior Court.
Permit Renewal Process
To renew your alarm permit, please visit: https://latax.lacity.org/oofweb/epermit/par_logon.cfm. A late penalty of $15 will be imposed for renewing your alarm permit from January 1st to March 31st. Alarm permits renewed after March 31st will be assessed a late penalty of $30, in addition to the renewal fee.

What May Be Required
The False Alarm Reduction Section of Montgomery County requires an alarm permit for residential and commercial security alarms monitored to provide police response. The annual fee for a residential or commercial permit is $30. The police will not be dispatched to your home if your system is not registered and you will be subject to a fine.
Application Process
To complete the application, please visit https://fars.montgomerycountymd.gov/
Click on the box labeled “Register Online.”
Click on the box with the statement – “I have installed a new alarm system and have never previously registered with the alarm program” and then click on “Register Your Alarm.”
Once you are in the alarm user registration page, you must fill out the registration form completely.

On this page you will see a green box in the top right corner labeled “Sign Me in Now.” You must click this box to log into your account to pay the registration fee.
After you login to your alarm user portal, you can click the “Pay Online” menu item and follow the prompts to finish paying the registration fee.
It is important that you click the green “sign me in now” box to complete your registration. If you do not pay the registration fee, they will send you an email indicating that your registration is not complete until payment has been received.

The Prince George’s County Police Department, False Alarm Reduction Unit requires that alarm users register their alarm system before use and update any changes to their application within ten days of the change. There is no fee to register a residential alarm system. There is a $50 fee to register a commercial alarm system.

What May Be Required
The City of San Diego requires 2 permits, Police and Fire, for residential and commercial security alarms monitored to provide police response. The annual fee for a police residential or commercial permit is $10. YOU WILL BE SUBJECT TO A $400 FINE IF POLICE ARE DISPATCHED BEFORE YOU ARE REGISTERED.
In addition, the fee for the Fire permit is $18.00 and must be paid separately from the Police fee. This fee is due every two years.

False alarm activations within a 365-day period will result as follows:
1st Occurrence: $100
2nd Occurrence: $200
3rd Occurrence: $300
4th Occurrence: $400
5 or more occurrences: $500 each
No Permit Penalty: $400.00
Fire Alarm Permit:
Two (2) false alarms per calendar year (January 1 to December 31) are allowed without penalty or fee. Subsequent false alarms of three or more in the same calendar year are subject to the following fees and penalties:

4th Occurrence: $305
5th Occurrence: $525
6 or more occurrences: $2,285 each
If the number of false alarms exceed the allowable amounts per calendar year (one (1) for Police or two (2) for Fire-Rescue), your permit is subject to revocation.
